I like mixing painted objects or figures with fragments, artifacts, pieces of things thrown together, scraps of old art, clothing, junk,something from my studio floor.
Many of my paintings are layered over other older work leaving traces or images to peer through and add personal references or shadows of other times and places to the piece.
Text is also an important factor in my work. I I find a passage in reading, I write my own or I overhear something in conversation. I stamp, print, collage or stencil words or passages into the work. The reference to human communication further connects the images and objects like a string or a line on a map.
